Sado –
the Way of Tea

Your experience begins here

Japanese Tea Ceremony Experience

Discover the refined art of the Japanese tea ceremony in an authentic, tatami-matted room.

Our experience begins with a demonstration by a qualified tea master, performing the traditional roles of both host and guest. After watching this graceful performance, you will be invited to sit on the tatami mats and try the tea ceremony yourself.

For those who are not used to sitting in the traditional seiza (kneeling) position, we offer a table-based arrangement so that everyone can enjoy the experience comfortably.

The tea ceremony follows a traditional order: first, you will enjoy a seasonal Japanese sweet (wagashi), followed by a bowl of matcha tea served to you by the host. After experiencing how it feels to be served, each participant will have the opportunity to prepare matcha using authentic utensils, one at a time, under gentle guidance.

If you wish, we are happy to assist you in recording a short video of your experience on your smartphone.

At the end, we take a commemorative group photo to celebrate the occasion.

As your convinient Macha and Tea whisks (chasen) are also available for purchase at the front desk should you wish to continue your tea journey at home.

Syodo -Japanese Calligraphy

Write your NAME in Kanji

Japanese Calligraphy Experience

Learn to write your name in beautiful Japanese characters through the art of calligraphy.

In this experience, the goal is for you to be able to write your own name in kanji (Chinese characters used in Japanese), or alternatively in hiragana or katakana if you prefer. We begin with the basics: how to hold the brush, how to apply ink, and how to write the fundamental brush strokes.

With individual guidance from our experienced instructor, you’ll practise brush control and gradually build confidence. Once you’re familiar with the brush, the teacher will write your name in kanji, and you will practise by copying it. The instructor will use a red brush to give helpful marks and highlight both your strengths and areas to improve.

When you’re ready, you will write your name on a keepsake of your choice: a traditional fan (uchiwa), a mini hanging scroll (kakejiku), or a folding screen (byōbu). If you’re not confident in your writing, don’t worry — the instructor can write it for you as a souvenir.

You’re also welcome to choose a favourite kanji character instead of your name, or to practise using hiragana or katakana instead of kanji.

To finish, we will take a commemorative photo with your completed work. You’ll receive a special souvenir: one item bearing your calligraphy and a certificate card to celebrate the completion of your calligraphy experience.

And just a gentle reminder — getting a tattoo of a kanji character that doesn’t mean what you think can be quite embarrassing. Better to learn its meaning and form properly first!

Calligraphy sets are available for purchase at the front desk if you’d like to continue practising at home.

Make a Cocoon Flower

Create a delicate silk flower from real silkworm cocoons – a unique experience rooted in Japanese tradition.

The art of crafting flowers from silk cocoons was once a refined and discreet pastime among noblewomen in Japan, and was even enjoyed by the Empress Dowager. This elegant craft, steeped in quiet history, offers a glimpse into a graceful world of beauty and patience.

As creating a flower from raw cocoons is a time-intensive process, our experience uses specially prepared kits assembled by the instructor in advance. During the session, you’ll learn how to shape and assemble the components to create a silk flower like the one shown in the image on the left.

Once your flower is complete, we’ll take a commemorative group photo, and then you’ll place your flower in a specially designed display frame box to take home. The box is lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry in your luggage.

Take home not just a beautiful object, but a memory of calm craftsmanship and cultural elegance.
